Introduction:

During the journey of this project, we explored the customization of the Thriverz website which is an online platform featuring diverse content like photos, videos, blogs, podcasts, courses, hosting a variety of multimedia content. David Smith, the owner of the website, required a solution to improve their website’s search functionality by dynamically managing search categories.

Problem Statement:

The Thriverz website had search boxes for different content types, but categories without posts still appeared in search results which were causing confusion for users. David Smith wanted these empty categories hidden until they contained at least one post.

Implementation

Initiation:

  • Project Inception (12/12/2022):

    David Smith, the owner of Thriverz, reached out to us with the need to improve their search functionality.

Planning:

  • Initial Meeting (15/12/2022): Discussed requirements and goals.
  • Technology Stack: Decided on using PHP for customization.

Execution:

  • Development Phase (10/01/2023 – 20/01/2023):
    • Examined the current source-tree and code base.
    • Adjusted code created in PHP to enable the modification of the content of categories in the search boxes.
    • Make sure that the page layout becomes easily compatible with the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Monitoring and Controlling:

  • Testing Phase (25/01/2023 – 30/01/2023): Performed intense check on the display of categories based on the availability of content in the site.
  • David’s Feedback (01/02/2023): Integrated the feedback and adjustment of the schematic in order to attain the final solution.

Closure:

  • Deployment and Handover (05/02/2023): Implemented the customized solution and handed over relevant papers to the client.

Results:

The customization was tested in influencing positive user experience since search boxes would only show related categories only. This helped in minimizing the search process and any confusion that the users may have gone through.

Conclusion:

This project demonstrates the fact that we have the skills to improve the already existing platforms by refining PHP codes and features, as well as optimizing them for better usability. More features may be added in subsequent versions, such as enhanced search options and integrated user feedback.
